In our lifetime, more than 1 in 3 of us will develop some kind of cancer. Cancer is a disease where cancer cells grow and invade our normal cells. There are about 200 different sorts of cancer than can affect many different parts of our bodies e.g. our lungs, breasts, skin, stomach. All of these cancers are caused by different things, have different symptoms and need different treatments.
You can’t necessarily stop yourself from developing cancer but you can lower your risk of getting it!
Some increased risk factors for cancer are:
- Smoking
- Being overweight
- Diet
- Alcohol
- Family History
- Sun and UV light
- Unprotected sex
An Example:
Lung cancer is often linked to things like smoking, and it’s true that you will increase your chances of getting lung cancer if you smoke BUT even if you don’t smoke, it does not mean you wont get lung cancer!
